AC Maintenance & Tune-Ups in Hutchinson, Dassel & Surrounding Areas

or request service to get on our schedule.

We rarely see an air conditioner fail out of the blue. Usually, it gets a little less efficient every season, works a little harder, and then quits on the hottest day of the year. This is when every HVAC company in the county is already booked. A seasonal tune-up is how you catch the small stuff before it becomes expensive.

What Skipping Maintenance Actually Costs You

Most people don't skip AC maintenance because they think it's worthless. They skip it because nothing seems wrong. Here's what's quietly happening in the meantime:

warning

Your system gets less efficient every year

Dirty coils, a clogged filter, and low refrigerant all force the system to run longer to do the same job. That shows up on your power bill every single month of the cooling season, whether you notice it or not.

warning

Small problems turn into big ones

A weak capacitor is a cheap part. Left alone, it strains the compressor, which is not a cheap part. A clogged condensate drain is a five-minute fix. Left alone, it overflows, and you're dealing with water damage. Most of the expensive AC failures we get called out for started as something small and unnoticed.

warning

Your system dies years early

An AC that runs hard for a decade doesn't last as long as one that's been kept clean and properly charged. Maintenance is about getting a unit to last 18 years rather than 10 years.

warning

It quits at the worst possible time

Systems fail under load. That means they fail during the first real heat wave, not on a mild day in May. That's also when we're busiest, and parts are hardest to get.

warning

Your warranty may depend on it

Many manufacturers require documented annual maintenance to keep the warranty valid. Skip it, and the repair may no longer be covered.

Brian on Maintaining Your AC Unit

A little maintenance goes a long way. Keep your filter clean, keep your outdoor unit clean, and make sure your refrigerant charge is right... do all this, and a good system will take care of you for years. When we tune up a system, we're not just checking a box. We tear into it, clean it thoroughly, and make sure it's running the way it was built to.  You end up uncomfortable and paying a lot more for a lot less performance.

What We Do During a Tune-Up

A tune-up means checking the things in your HVAC system that actually cause failures:

  • Refrigerant charge - We check and inspect for leaks. A low system is usually leaking, and running low damages the compressor.
  • Condenser and evaporator coils - Cleaned and inspected. Dirty coils are the single most common reason a system can't keep up.
  • Electrical components - Capacitors, contactors, and connections checked for wear and pitting. This is where a lot of mid-summer failures start.
  • Condensate drain - Cleared and checked. Clogs cause leaks and water damage.
  • Blower and airflow - Checked to make sure the system is moving air the way it's supposed to.
  • Thermostat - Tested for accuracy and calibration.
  • Filter - Cleaned or replaced depending on what we find.
  • Overall system performance - We measure how the system is actually running.

If we find something heading toward failure, we will inform you and leave the decision up to you. There's no pressure to fix anything on the spot.

Well-Maintained Systems Also Dehumidify Your Home

Your air conditioner has two jobs. It cools the air and it pulls moisture out of it. When a system is dirty, low on refrigerant, or short-cycling, it often still gets the temperature down, but it stops removing humidity properly. That's why a house can read 72 degrees on the thermostat and still feel clammy and uncomfortable.

Keeping the coil clean and the system running steadily is exactly what allows it to dehumidify as it should. It's one of the biggest differences between a home that feels genuinely comfortable and one that just feels less hot.
