Our Furnace Services
Not sure if a furnace is what you have? A lot of homes in this area run hot water boilers or heat pumps instead. We service all of them, see our heating services overview.
Common Things We See in Furnaces Around Here
We spend a lot of the winter working with furnaces in this area, and some patterns come up a lot:
Furnaces that are way past their expected life. It's common for us to find furnaces running 20 to 25 years, sometimes the original unit that the house was built with. They still work, but they're a fraction as efficient as a modern system, parts get harder to source every year, and reliability drops.
Systems that were oversized when they were installed. There was a long stretch where "bigger is better" was the rule of thumb for furnace sizing. An oversized furnace heats the space fast, then shuts off — then fires again a few minutes later. That short-cycling is hard on the equipment, and it can cause humidity and comfort problems throughout the house. When we replace a furnace, we size it to the home as it exists now, not just match whatever was there before.
Homes that have changed since the furnace went in. New windows, added insulation, a finished basement, an addition, etc. are all things that affect how a furnace operates. The old unit's size may simply be wrong for the home today.
Repair It, or Replace It?
If your furnace is 20+ years old and facing a significant repair, you have to start asking yourself some serious questions. The factors at play are efficiency, reliability, warranty coverage, and whether you want to keep gambling on your old unit.
A Note from Brian
Most people don't drive a 20-year-old vehicle as their daily driver. While a car this old does run, they don't want to be stranded when it finally quits. A furnace operates under the same principle If yours is old and you're weighing a big repair, it's usually better to replace it on your schedule, rather than in an emergency at 2 a.m. in January. And in the meantime, you stop paying the monthly cost of running an inefficient system.
The question we end up asking customers is simple: do you want to be in control of the replacement, or do you want the replacement to be in control of you?
We'll give you the honest numbers both ways and let you decide. There's never pressure to replace something that has years left in it.
Our Approach to Work
We service any furnace, regardless of who installed it. We're licensed throughout McLeod County and the surrounding counties, and we'll work on any brand or model.
One exception: we don't service oil-burner systems. We will replace them, though, converting older oil setups to efficient LP or natural gas.
Financing is available. A furnace replacement is a real expense, and we work with Synchrony Financial to make it manageable. Ask about current offers and financing.
