Detailed walkthrough on a standard AC repair
The first step is you have to contact us, whether through our phone (320-582-4822) or our fast scheduling form online. We receive this, and contact you ASAP to make sure we can drive out to your location. Our vans are pre-loaded with the tools and parts needed to repair most AC systems.
We then drive to your home or building, and you meet us. You show us where your AC unit is, and we get started right away. If it's central air, we will likely start at your outdoor unit and pull the cover off to check the contactor and capacitor for signs of electrical failure or "pitting". We also look at the condenser fan motor to ensure it's drawing the correct amperage. If it's ductless, we will head straight to the indoor air handler. We’ll check the drain pan for clogs (a common cause of leaks) and inspect the evaporator coil for dust buildup that tends to restrict airflow and cause the unit to freeze.
Once we know the scope of the problem, we can give you an accurate quote. We are not the cheapest HVAC service in town. Our goal is to have high quality and reasonable prices. Once you have the quote, you can decide to have us perform the repair (or not). If you give us the green light, we will make the repairs as quickly and safely as we can. We use high-quality parts sourced locally from HVAC wholesale stores.
When the repair is successful, your AC unit will begin behaving normally. Our techs perform final tests on the system to ensure the problem that we discovered is solved.

Repair vs. Replace Calculator
There is a well-known rule in the HVAC industry called the $5,000 Rule. It’s a math formula designed to help you decide whether it makes sense to repair or replace a system. You simply multiply the age of your unit by the cost of the repair. If the total exceeds $5,000, the industry recommendation is to invest that money into a new system instead of fixing the old one.
Try out our calculator below to see the principle:

Enter your details to see if you should Repair or Replace.
A note from Brian: The $5,000 rule is a great baseline, but if your unit is 8 years old and has a leaking evaporator coil (which requires expensive refrigerant), we might still suggest replacement because that specific part indicates the system is failing from the inside out. You'll have to make a judgment call with the information we give you.

AC units we service
We have expertise in several types of AC systems.
Mini-Split Systems
These are also called "ductless" units. We consider them to be ideal for additions or homes without crawlspaces.
Central Air Systems
The standard "split-system" found in most homes. You can usually tell you have central air if you have a big unit with a fan on top, sitting on a concrete pad.
Heat Pumps
These systems sometimes look like a central AC unit that is flattened and turned on it's side. They have a reversing valve that allows them to heat and cool. They can run year-round!
Package/Roof Mount Units
Common on flat-roof homes and commercial buildings (think the AC units they have on a Target or Walmart).
Feedback from Customers
"Excellent company! Very respectful group of guys who did an excellent job putting in our new furnace & AC! I highly recommend Charity HVAC!! Thank you!"
Alicia Callahan
"I found out about this company from a friend last year. We were in need of a new air conditioner and furnace. Brian came over with a plan to replace the existing units which were in bad shape. Soon after he and his boys arrived with the new units. Installation went smooth with quality workmanship at a fair price! I could not be more satisfied! Great job done by great people!!"
