There are really two parts to making a space comfortable: air temperature and humidity. Most people understand temperature, but don't get the relationship of humitiy with comfort.

• Air conditioning is both cooling and dehumidifying. The word "air conditioning" is really twofold: it's about cooling and drying, both are very important.
• Better humidity control can make a home feel comfortable at higher temps If you dehumidify well, the space feels better even without overworking the AC.
• Ductless and variable-speed systems handle humidity better than basic on/off units. Nothing dehumidifies as well as a ductless or other modulating/multi-speed system because they can keep running steadily instead of sharply cycling on and off.
• Steady operation matters: The goal is to keep the coil cold so it keeps removing moisture from the air. Cheap window units shut off a lot, the wet coil stays there, and can briefly add moisture back into the air when the fan keeps blowing.
• Cheap window units create bigger humidity swings. In contrast with ductless systems, a window unit goes “on, off, on, off,” while a ductless mini-split modulates and maintains a more stable humidity level.

We call this indoor air quality, and it's a huge consideration when we are trying to get to the root cause of a home or room that is just plain uncomfortable.
