Installation Is Where a Heat Pump Is Won or Lost
With a heat pump, the install matters as much as the equipment. A great unit that's oversized, undersized, or poorly set up will underperform. We've seen issues with short-cycling, struggling in the cold, running up bills, and the homeowner's family never quite comfortable. The same unit, sized and installed correctly, will quietly do its job for years.
Three installation steps that are important:
- Load calculation and sizing. We size the system to your home as it actually is, looking at square footage, insulation, windows, layout. Right-sizing is the single biggest factor in cold-climate performance.
- Proper placement and setup. Outdoor unit location, line sets, electrical, and refrigerant charge are all done to spec. Skipping steps here is exactly what separates a system that lasts from one that doesn't.
- Commissioning. We verify the system is actually running at its rated efficiency before we leave.
We're Recognized for Heat Pump Installation
Charity Heating and Cooling has invested in our skills and certifications to get heat pumps to perform in Minnesota. At least one of our technicians holds a heat pump installation certification recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy. Our team completed training through the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) on installing these systems correctly.

The Brands We Install
Mitsubishi is our go-to. We install many Mitsubishi systems and know them very well. They're reliable, efficient, and their cold-climate performance is strong. We also install Trane. Between the two, we can match the right system to your home and your goals rather than pushing whatever's on the truck.
Heat Pumps That Work in Minnesota
If you've heard heat pumps "don't work in the cold," that information is out of date. Modern cold-climate heat pumps are built to pull heat from the air well below freezing, and they've become a genuinely viable primary heating system in Minnesota.
For homeowners who want a safety net on the very coldest days, a dual-fuel setup pairs a heat pump with a furnace. The heat pump handles most of the heating season efficiently, and the furnace takes over when temperatures really drop. It's an excellent option for a lot of homes around here, and it's something we can design for from the start.
Heat Pump Installation for New Construction
If you're building or adding on, this is the ideal time to put in a heat pump. The system can be designed into the home from the beginning rather than retrofitted later. There has been growth in new construction around our area, especially toward Buffalo and the eastern edge of the region. We've installed many heat pumps in these new builds and have seen it pay off for the homeowner.
Incentives & Financing
Heat pumps are often eligible for rebates and incentives, and these change over time as federal, state, and utility programs come and go. We'll help you understand what's currently available for your situation rather than promising something that may have expired.
Ask us about our current offers on new heat pump systems, and about financing through Synchrony to make the investment manageable.
A Cleaner-Air Add-On
We install the Nu-Calgon Scorpion UV light and the iWave air ionizer, which are both designed to reduce mold, viruses, and bacteria in your system. We currently include them with new system installations. They work on heat pumps, mini-splits, and traditional systems.
Looking for a Ductless Mini-Split?
Ductless mini-splits are a type of heat pump, and they're a great fit for homes without ductwork, additions, or spaces a central system doesn't reach well. We install those too, see our dedicated ductless mini-split installation page for that specifically.
